Learning Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of the history and impact of racism in the medical system and its impact on Black maternal health.

  • Understand and recognize social determinants of health inequities.

  • Identify and utilize tools and strategies to overcome implicit bias to improve performance and patient outcomes.

  • Understand disparities in health care as it pertains to women of color. 

  • Understand key emotional elements that impact women of color during and post NICU discharge.

  • Gain strategies to expand and strengthen communication skills.

BLACK PREEMIE PARENTS AS PARTNERS IN PREEMIE CARE

Faculty:Terri Kincade, Ashley Randolph

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe current trends in neonatal perinatal health disparities

  • To review data related to parental and clinician perceptions of racial disparities in NICU Care

  • Provide examples of racial bias from the perspective of a black neonatologist and a black preemie parent.
